The Protest Issue

This month’s issue of Under The Radarcolinchrisbritt001172.png is entitled “The Protest Issue”. Now let me start off by saying that I am not one to be swayed either way by what Collin Meloy or Fleet Foxes say should be important to me, but that’s the beauty of it. For the most part this issue is more about exploring what’s important to them and less “preachy”. I hate “preachy”. I will admit though that I do find it interesting to see what these artists ,whose work I love, regard as some of their biggest concerns for the world today. Another bonus is I find these indie artists seem ,I truly mean seem, to be more informed on these subjects than some of the young Hollywood kids who want to tell you what to support. While there are exceptions I feel that alot of times that Hollywood stars use certain causes to seem hip or to show how much they care. But the comical paradox of this is obviously the extreme wastefulness of a large amount of these millionaires. Driving a Prius is a trendy, you want to show me you really care? Donate more to causes that you say mean something to you, own one house and have that house be reasonable for who lives there. You live alone? Then why do you have three five bedroom houses? Now this may seem extreme I know, but I am just trying to illustrate a point.
Sorry for the Hollywood rant. Like I said before, the magazine is really wonderful in it’s execution, the musicians they talked to seemed to generally be passionate about what they spoke of and UTR even had each group paint a a protest sign which will be auctioned on ebay to support charity. Brilliant. Do yourself a favor and pick this up, you wont be dissapointed.
