I wasn’t sure if it would happen, but it did. Barack Obama is President-elect and for the first time in a while I feel a glimmer of hope for this country. I feel like we ,as Americans, have made the first step in healing ourselves. I know Obama will not magically make the world right but I feel like ,with this win, we have begun our first stages of self healing. Obviously not everyone feels this way but this is our greatest chance to accept our wrongdoings and admit we ,as a nation, have lost our way. Some feel that this is a tragedy for our country but I feel that if we have a great opportunity to prove them wrong. If you are a fan of Obama, I ask you to maintain this feeling and take some pride and responsibility as an American. It is our time to show why we felt like this was an amazing opportunity and to be better citizens. If you are a McCain fan, I ask that you just open your mind. We all want the same outcome. We all want to have a country where everyone is equal, and treated fairly. This , I feel, is our greatest opportunity yet to bring forth these changes and create an atmosphere of respect for each others differences and to look at things from both sides. It’s late and I am tired so I am rambling, but I see the sun rising on our country and I am optimistic.

So I think anyone who knows me knows who I would like to win the election on Nov. 4th…Obama. When I think of the the GOP Ticket, this seems so very fitting.

Ethan Edward Lombard 07/05/07 - 10/20/07

One year ago to the day and time (4:13 p.m.) the future was wide open. There were a lot of worries in our world but there wasn’t anything Wendi, Ethan and I couldn’t conquer. Our days were consumed with things like walks around the neighborhood with E in his stroller, enjoying the weather. Now the closest we get to that is walking up to his grave marker. What once consisted of Wendi and I making a mess in E’s room then cleaning it, now has become mother nature making a mess of his grave-site and Wendi and I carefully brushing every leaf off as if it was a misplaced sock. Things have changed, dramatically. And while this isn’t how we thought we would be a year ago, when we look forward towards next year, it’s hard not to be optimistic. While it’s true that we cannot change the past, we can make the best of the present. We are grateful for all the time we had with him and we know it will make us better parents for when his little sibling arrives in (or around) June. So, though this is not where we wanted to be, we can not change it and I believe we have learned a lot from him in his 3 months and fifteen days with us.

Musings of the newly conceived

So the news of a new child on the way for Wendi and I is truly amazing. I feel some people don’t know quite how to respond to this in the wake of Ethan’s death. So maybe I can clear some things up. The new baby is not to replace Ethan. The baby was conceived purely out of love and a love of being parents. This child is not here to replace a hole left by Ethan or anything like that. I will say that this is a huge step toward healing Wendi and I (and our family to a certain degree as well) but this is our second child. We have never felt like we stopped being parents at any point but our parenting was put to use in other ways. We still talk to Ethan and try to live our lives in a way that he could be proud. The belief in God and a heaven is purely speculative at best but if those things do exist (which Wendi and I believe they do) than we don’t want to run the risk of not getting to see Ethan again. So with that in mind, the new baby is an addition to our family, (s)he is the fourth member and will be loved as much as we loved Ethan. The love will be fundamentally different cause we know what loss feels like and how nothing is promised, but we are all still a family. So when we you talk to us about the new baby, don’t tip-toe around Ethan. We accept the fact that we have a son that has passed away. We aren’t trying to forget his presence but rather commit every detail of it to memory so as never to forget a single thing. Don’t tell us how this will replace him, it won’t and in my honest opinion the new baby has big shoes to fill. But I know those shoes will fit perfect, our two children will be equally amazing in our eyes.
So ,in closing, I just want to reiterate:
Ethan died, we accept that, but he lives on in our hearts forever. The new baby will know everything about his/her brother. We are not afraid to talk about him and quite frankly we love it. We love sharing our memories.
Things are about to get hectic here, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ok, so I have been on a little hiatus recently for school an what-not but I am back. A lot has been going on so I think maybe a small update is in order.
1. The birth of my newest nephew happened on Sept. 29. His name is Carter and he is amazing and healthy!
2. I have finished EMT-B school and now am awaiting the results of my testing to see if I passed. I feel good about it so I am optimistic.
3. And in what is the most exciting news WENDI IS PREGNANT!!! Yes! In what is sure to be a scary yet amazing nine months we will have another child! I am so excited about this. It will be so fun and amazing. We couldn’t have asked for better news. It looks like the as-yet unnamed child is due for the world on or around June 14th. I will be posting another longer post on this later today or tomorrow so look for that.

It has been a wonderful few weeks and it looks like things will just be getting better!

Since I am in school til the beg. of October, updates will be slim. I finish school on the 6th of Oct. and then Wendi and I will take our fall D.C. trip for a few days. Mid-October, things should be going again.
